The Samaritans
"I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink..."
One of the most powerful thing about attending college in the Sonoran Desert is that the needs felt by those that walk it's deserts are so similar to those very basic needs that Jesus and his disciples felt themselves as they walked the deserts of their day. Food. Water. Clothing. These are the things without which life cannot be sustained, and these are the things that the Samaritans provide to those that walk our deserts, desperate for a better and safer life. It is ironic that in pursuit of a safer life, one must tread through some of the world's most deathly territories. That is exactly why, since July of 20o2, the Samaritans have been providing basic humanitarian assistance in the form of emergency medical assistance, food and water to people crossing the Sonoran Desert.
Frontera Wesley is glad to be able to join with the Samaritans, and other groups in Tucson, such as Humane Borders, and No More Deaths, in answering Jesus simple call, "I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink..."
