I’m Erendida Robles, I am a DACA recipient currently attending Pima. Im studying youth service and volunteering with scholarships A-Z as the student action committee.
“Faith and activism don’t mix”
This is definitely not true. That was something that I struggled with when I began to work with Scholarships A-Z. I later realized that it wasn’t true. There's a scripture, Isaiah 1:17, that literally says: “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”
[This verse] basically says that you need to seek justice and that's basically what the government is NOT doing. They are not giving us our deserved justice and constantly oppressing us. Me fighting and doing my activist work is me literally obeying the Word. It's in the bible! [For someone who is struggling to decide] I would say to that it comes down to them and what they think is right. What they want to fight for and they believe is right, and what God wants us to do, then do it. It's okay for us to be fighting because that's what it takes for the world to see us. If you’re fighting for what's good then why would it be bad. Jesus was an immigrant, so why would fighting for immigrants and doing activism work be against our faith.

"La fe y el activismo no se mezclan"
Esto definitivamente no es cierto. Eso fue algo con lo que tuve problemas cuando comencé a trabajar con ScholarshipsA-Z. Luego me di cuenta de que eso no era cierto. Hay una escritura, Isaías 1:17, que literalmente dice: "Aprende a hacer lo correcto; buscar justicia, defender a los oprimidos. Toma la causa de los huérfanos; defiende el caso de la viuda."
[Este versículo] básicamente dice que debes buscar justicia y eso es básicamente lo que el gobierno NO está haciendo. No nos están dando nuestra merecida justicia y constantemente nos oprimen. El que yo pelea y haga mi trabajo de activista es literalmente obedecer la Palabra. ¡Está en la biblia! [Para alguien que está luchando decidir entre fe y activismo] le diría que se trata de ellos y de lo que piensan que es lo correcto. Por lo que quieren luchar y creen que es lo correcto y lo que Dios quiere que hagamos, entonces hágalo. Está bien que peleemos porque eso es lo que toma para que el mundo nos vea. Si estás luchando por lo que es bueno, ¿por qué sería malo? Jesús era un inmigrante, entonces porque el pelear por los derechos de inmigrantes y buscar justicia seria ir encontrando de nuestra fe?
