My name is Dario Andrade Mendoza and I'm lucky to be a DACA recipient. I'm also the Communications Co-Director at ScholarshipsA-Z.
“Why don’t you do it the right way?”
My family and I are doing it the right way, we are surviving in the only ways that is accessible to us. When folx say "the right way" they usually refer to "earning" a status in this country and not being undocumented. The reality is that my family has been undocumented for almost 15 years because there is no pathway to a status for us. Even with lots of close family members who are citizens, the naturalization process takes over 2 decades, which is not realistic. As we advocate for a clean pathway to status, we survive. We navigate systems that are not meant for us to exist. We lift each other up, and we do our best to make sure tomorrow is a better day for us.

"¿Por qué no lo haces de la manera correcta?"
Mi familia y yo lo hacemos de la manera correcta, estamos sobreviviendo de la única manera que tenemos disponible para nosotros. Cuando personas dicen "de la manera correcta" usualmente se refieren a "ganar" un estatus en este país y no ser indocumentado. La realidad es que mi familia ha estado indocumentada por casi 15 años porque no hay un camino hacia la ciudadanía para nosotros. Incluso con muchos familiares cercanos que son ciudadanos, el proceso de naturalización lleva más de 2 décadas, lo que no es realista. Mientras abogamos por un camino limpio hacia la protección permanente, sobrevivimos. Navegamos por sistemas que no están destinados a que existamos. Nos levantamos unos a otros y hacemos todo lo posible para asegurarnos de que mañana sea un día mejor para nosotros.
